Famous People in ChemistryThere are many famous people in chemistry. These include biologists, chemists, mathematicians, economists, political scientists, physicists, and of course Nobel Prize winners. It's impossible to cover everyone who has worked in this field. Here are a few of the more well known ones.John Ewen Cameron is widely considered to be the father of biochemical research. He was born in 1791 and he went on to become the first professor of chemistry at Harvard University. In fact, he was a very important scientist in the development of microbiology. His famous work included crystallography, thermodynamics, and biomolecular theory. He invented the Euler-Lagrange equations and contributed greatly to the study of heat transfer.Alexander Fleming was one of the world's first chemists. He is well known for his discovery of penicillin. He also received a Nobel Prize for his contributions to the study of infections and the treatment of infections. This man is credited with crea ting modern antibiotics and opening the door for the creation of vaccines. Today, he is recognized as one of the most eminent public figures in chemistry.Albert J. Pomeroy was an American scientist who explored the study of phlogiston, a substance that supposedly caused friction in the combustion of animals and plants. He eventually came up with his theory of combustion without flame. This theory is now accepted and is widely used in the study of chemistry. He was also responsible for the discovery of the electron and was the first person to truly isolate and name it. Pomeroy spent many years as a frustrated and respected scientist, but he died in 1907, leaving behind a legacy that continues to this day.Renate Muller-Brockhausen is well known for her contribution to the study of atoms and bosons. The term 'boson' is actually used today to refer to the concept of an atom. According to her work, all atoms are similar to each other and have a property called mass. She was one of the fi rst people to propose the use of the term 'boson' to describe these atoms. Her paper, 'On the Uniqueness of Interacting Particles' is often cited as the first reference in the study of atoms.Ludwig David Peters was the first person to conduct experiments in biochemistry. He did some interesting things in that area of research, including the observation that protein complexes were not necessarily simple molecules. He was one of the first people to propose the idea that enzymes play a key role in the metabolism of cells. He helped create the basis for biochemical drugs, which became so popular after World War II.Ansel Adams is widely credited with discovering what is now called memetics. Memetics deals with the social sciences of learning, which in turn deal with cultural norms and contagion. Adams was the first person to suggest that a new meme, which he termed the genetic disease, can spread through word of mouth or through the medium of culture. For the longest time, his discovery was viewed as a hoax, but now it is widely accepted.Henri Poincaré was a French physicist who was very influential in the development of physics. He published a variety of different theories about the nature of light, including his general theory of relativity and his quantum theory. He was also responsible for developing the theory of relativity. He also became the first person to move particles to free energy, and then he found out how to do it. His theory still influences our understanding of nature and is still being used in a variety of places today.

Obama tends to preach about what he has already done rather than what he plans to do. Romney is consistently vague and rarely directly answers a question. Both are very redundant, so it is no wonder that supporters of either candidate claim that their candidate won after each debate. I think it is impossible to change someones opinion in a debate that last only ninety minutes, especially when the answers given are as vague as they have been this year. (For example, when I saw Obama speak live at Ohio State, I could have sworn that I had heard the same speech before based on bits and pieces of different speeches I had seen on TV. Then I realized that I, in fact, had.) All I know is that it will be quite nice when all the hubbub of the election has settled down.

Take your passion for a world tour By Steven SandersAlthough I enjoyed teaching in the UK, I was always first out of the school gates with my passport in hand whenever the winter, Easter or summer holidays would come around.After spending two years flitting between my two passions, I decided the best approach would be to simply combine them and teach abroad. I researched available positions and accepted a teaching position in Italy. The image of the country’s famous art and cuisine made handing in my resignation easier.It’s important to understand that teaching in another country isn’t always just a smooth transition into a new job, however, it has always been these potential banana skins that fueled my desire to explore the wold. I began to see the positive aspects of uprooting.I always enjoyed fully immersing myself into new surroundings, even when on vacation, and the thought of progressing with a new language and becoming a familiar face in a foreign place was something I thrived on.Anywhere in the world, ru ral or urban, you can find ways to immerse yourself into your local community through being socially involved, and many schools are open to ESL teachers setting up extracurricular activities in something you are passionate about: sports, the arts, knitting - you name it!Committing time to learning the local language will always have its benefits, and can be another source of motivation to pry you away from expat clubs or western movies and music.Aside from this, it’s important to remember that teaching abroad is not a vacation, and the students - as well as the school - need a teacher who is enthusiastic and dedicated.Combining this desire with the advice above will see you reap the rewards that ESL teaching offers, and allow you to feel part of where you live, and not just a temporary figure dreaming about home comforts.Steven Sanders is a Placement Coordinator at  Teach Away. However, there are a number of disadvantages.ProsConsIt’s portable.With only one pad, you can’t practice complex drum fills for your drum solo.It’s quiet compared with a physical drum.You can’t practice your kick drum.Its surface is made to imitate that of a snare drum.It only imitates snares and doesn’t give the feel of toms.It’s wonderful for practising rudiments such as a simple drum beat, drum rolls or a paradiddle.It doesn’t have rims.It’s very sensitive, forcing you to be accurate.While quite sensitive, you won’t be learning to listen to your drums - which have more reverb and overtones.It’s a good way to practice sho wmanship drumming.You can’t practice your cymbal work.If you can’t have an acoustic drum set at home when learning drums another option is to go for an electronic drum set. It will have the full set of drums set up like a traditional drum kit. The pads are designed to feel like a traditional drumhead when you hit them. You can play them with headphones and get a sound nearer to real drums.However, though the sound is close, it isn’t exactly the same. On the upside, you can program a whole array of interesting sounds (canon or foghorn, anyone?).Preparing for your Drum LessonsWhen learning how to play the drums, you will find that it’s not just about drum fills and jazz improvisation. You will need to know how to care for your instrument and how to read musical notation.Drum tuningDo you come back from your drumming lessons wondering why your snare and toms sound different from those used by Carmine Appice, John Blackwell or Buddy Rich? It might have to do with how your drums are tuned.Some drums are tuned to a certain pitch and left at that. Other drums are tunable during play (like tabors or African talking drums). In the latter case, your drum instructor will definitely teach you how to vary the pitch while playing.In the former, a good educator will demonstrate how tuning the top and bottom heads will affect the sound of your drums. At the latest when you need to change the drum head, you will need to learn to tune your drums.Pearl Drums has a handy set of instructions for tuning the common drums of a drum set. Exactly what pitch you tune them to and what drum heads you choose will depend on the musical style you are playing - rock, jazz, afro-cuban, Latin or Big Band, and of course your own personal preferences.Do you know how to find your ideal drum tutor?Learning to Read Drum NotationIf you want to progress beyond the beginner exercises set by your drum teacher, you will need to learn how to read drum notation.If you can already read music, it can be both helpful and a hindrance. In normal musical notation, the placement of the notes on the staff give you the note played and the type of note (eighth note, quarter note…) will give you the rhythm.With drum notation, it’s a little different.It doesn’t help that there is no truly standardised notation, though there are some that are more common than others. The one used in Norman Weinberg’s Guide to Standardized Drumset Notation is the most commonly used out there, but you might find yourself confronted with a completely different notation once you start getting gigs.The basic premise remains the same:The type of percussion instrument is indicated by the shape of the note. Drums are usually normal black notes, cymbals, whether hi-hats or crash are an “x”, additional percussion instruments can be a triangle or cross. Which specific instrument is meant is indicated by its place on the stave. For example, the kick drum is generally on the bottom space of the staff; if d ouble bass drums are used, the second bass will be on the lowest bar. The snare is on the “la” or “A” space (if it were in treble clef). Drum sheet music publishers always include a legend at the beginning of the piece.Additional symbols can indicate ghost notes, rolls (eighth or sixteenth note or triplets), flams, drags or ruffs.Rhythm is indicated as in traditional music notation with the types of note (full, quarter, eighth etc.) Note that every drum notation is four beats to the bar unless otherwise indicated (a rare and challenging event).Drum notation looks like normal musical notation but works on slightly diffreent premise. A line “-” indicates that the instrument is silent. Drag, flam, ghost notes etc. each h ave a specific letter assigned to them.To advance in your craft, you will need to learn to read both drum music notation and drum tabs. A metronome is a useful tool to help you with that.Learning how to play drums can appear daunting at first, but as you progress in your lessons you will soon get into the groove and improvise your own drum fills. Before lessons begin, take some time to listen to music that has pieces of classical and rock in them.  Electric guitars that play with opera singers can be very cool to listen to!  Bruno Mars and Taylor Swift can sound great with piano but they can also sound totally amazing with violin. Other examples are Queens Bohemian Rhapsody”  and Barcelona” by Freddy Mercury and Montserrat Caballé. The latter  has a lot of fireworks and huge drums watch it below: Lacrymosa by Evanescence is another great example, based on the Lacrimosa movement from Mozarts Requiem. There are so many amazing examples when you really look and listen! Continue looking for songs like these to give your child a taste of classical songs. Talk about the Tunes After listening to music like this, try chatting about it! You don’t have to be a Puccini expert to do this. Ask questions like: “Wow, so what did you think of that guitar solo?” and What if you were to add some drums in that part of song, how do you think that would sound?” Sometimes a few casual questions can lead to some really amazing conversations, and the idea of studying and singing classical songs wont seem as archaic. Listening and finding a way to relate classical music to your childs interests can really make a huge difference. Active listening goes a long way in the classroom, but it also makes a huge difference when introducing a new activity. Where Should I Go First Places to See Once You Get to College An exciting part of settling into collegeis getting to know your campus. Not only will you more easily find your classes during the first week of school, youll also learn about available resources that can help you throughout your college career. Take a break from unpacking and setting up your living space, and go explore. Here are some places to see once you get to college: 1. Library The library is often the heart of campus. A central meeting location, it provides study spaces as well as print and electronic resources. Find out where your library is located its even helpful to know how long it takes to get there from your dorm and take a tour around the stacks. Check out where you can find books related to your major or course of study, in addition to the reserve, audio, and video sections. Throughout the library, youll see tables set aside for studying and doing work, and computers you can use if you dont want to bring your own. Look for study rooms that you can reserve, either for yourself or future study groups. You might even find a cozy spot, by a window or on a quiet floor, which you can return to later in the semester. 2. Student center The student center is another great place to meet classmates and other students. You can still study and do work here; its environment is just more casual and allows for louder conversations than the library. The student center provides space for extracurricular activities, like club meetings, job fairs, performances, art sales, and sometimes film screenings. Often, theres a coffee shop, a convenience store, or mini cafeteria you can purchase food from while youre studying or just passing through. Here, you can also meet with classmates or mentors for a cup of coffee. 3. Technology/Media center At the media center, youll learn about electronic and technological resources you can take advantage of for projects. These may include specific software, like Photoshop or InDesign, as well as camcorders, scanners, or recording devices. Often, you can bring in a flash drive or access your files online and do work at the media center itself. The staff is often trained in the use of their resources, and can help you if youd like to expand your knowledge or dont know quite how to execute your vision. 4. Fitness and recreation center Another place to see when you get to college is the fitness center. Check out what your fitness and recreation center has to offer you, in terms of classes and facilities, such as workout machines, weight rooms, or a swimming pool. Even if you dont consider yourself a traditionally athletic person, youll usually have to fulfill a fitness requirement anyway and take a class there or you may find resources suited to your interests, like yoga, archery, self-defense, or swing dancing. 5. Your major department If youve decided on your major, visit the department. Take a tour of the building and peek into classrooms where youll take classes. Along the hallways, youll often find showcases of professor and student awards, accomplishments, or publications. Youll also want to visit the department office itself, and if you like, introduce yourself to the administrators with whom youll work closely. You can even set up an appointment with a department head or future professor to get to know the department and your field of study better. College is a unique time where many resources are at your fingertips. Before the frenzy of classes settles in, take time to check out these places once you get to college, and learn what kind of support they can offer you.
